HCL Technologies Limited, or HCLTech, is an Indian multinational information technology (IT) services and consulting company headquartered in Noida. The company was founded by Shiv Nadar in 1976 as one of the original tech startups, with a vision for the future and a belief in the potential of computing to transform the decades to come. HCLTech emerged as an independent company in 1991 when HCL entered the software services business.
HCLTech is a global technology company, home to 223,000+ people across 60 countries, supercharging progress for the world’s top enterprises by bringing together the best of technology and its people. The company has 210+ delivery centers and 60+ innovation labs, serving over 10K clients using its software and products. HCLTech also holds over 2,000 patents driving innovation and has been recognized as a top employer in seventeen countries.
HCLTech has a rich history of innovation and achievement. In 1978, HCL’s indigenously designed 8-bit microcomputer hit the market—three years ahead of the first IBM PC and at the same time as Apple—democratizing computing in India.
In 1993, HCL pioneered remote infrastructure management, starting with a landmark digitization contract for the new National Stock Exchange (Asia’s largest at the time). In 1999, HCL entered the software services space by forming HCL Technologies, becoming the newest Indian IT services company. Its IPO received the highest demand ever, with a 27X share demand.
In recent years, HCLTech has continued to enhance its next-gen technologies portfolio by launching new business offerings across AI, Automation, IoT, Cybersecurity, Cloud, and Digital. In 2018, HCLTech pivoted back into the products business with the acquisition of iconic IBM software brands, including BigFix and AppScan, helping it become the fastest to achieve $1B in product revenue.
In 2020, HCLTech was ranked #30 in Forbes’ list of the World’s Best Employers and garnered recognition as a leader in shareholder wealth creation and corporate governance quality. In 2021, HCLTech crossed $10B in revenue, making it the fastest technology services company to reach this milestone.
HCLTech is also committed to making a positive impact on society. In 2021, its Better Health Hackathon: #CodeForCovid19 was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest healthcare technology solution competition.
In 2022, HCLTech was recognized as the Corporate Citizen of the Year by The Economic Times for being a leader of social change and championing good governance. That same year, HCLTech committed to achieving net-zero carbon by 2040, joining a group of only ~20% of the world’s public companies that have committed to net-zero carbon emissions targets.
HCLTech’s growth strategy for the emerging digital future is built on five strategic objectives: “To bring together the best technology and our people to supercharge progress. We look forward to supercharging our next growth phase with optimism and confidence, ready to seize the many opportunities ahead”.
With its global team of diverse and passionate people across 60 countries delivering smarter and better ways for all its stakeholders to benefit from technology, HCLTech is well-positioned to continue supercharging progress for years.
