Get Started with Equinix Metal
To initiate your journey with Equinix Metal, create a user account on their website. Apart from managing your profile, you can adjust login and security preferences and regulate your SSH and API keys. Their platform’s cornerstone is the seamless deployment, configuring, and management of bare metal servers across their extensive global infrastructure. Additionally, the Equinix Metal Startup Program is a superior alternative to conventional cloud providers for better managing multiple environments.
Admin Control Panel
The User Management dashboard centralizes all user-related tasks for efficient handling within the Customer Portal. Hence, administrators can access many options, from managing user notifications and registrations to terminating or deactivating obsolete user accounts.
Networking
Equinix Metal delivers an automated ‘as-a-service’ deployment approach, laying the foundation to build robust infrastructure while leveraging the expansive reach, interconnected ecosystems, and dependable partnerships inherent to Platform Equinix®.
Equinix Metal gives you immediate access to high-performance bare metal that is intrinsically integrated with Equinix Fabric®. This facilitates the rapid establishment of resilient infrastructure across worldwide locations, all within a matter of minutes.
Storage
Equinix Metal provides servers equipped with diverse disk configurations and extensive storage capabilities. It supports managed storage and third-party storage solutions. Its offerings include servers specifically designed for substantial storage needs, such as the s3.xlarge.x86 model, outfitted with 12 x 8 TB HDD. Other servers, such as the m3.large.x86, boast significant NVMe flash drive storing capacity, boasting 2 x 3.8 TB of NVMe Flash.
If your operations revolve around Kubernetes, a wealth of management options for cluster storage are available. Equinix Metal’s technical guides include a comprehensive Guide to Kubernetes Storage and a tutorial on utilizing Block Storage with Rook and Ceph.
Server Pricing
The principal pricing modalities are On-Demand and Reserved (On-Contract). On-demand pricing offers flexible and usage-based billing calculated on an hourly scale. Conversely, reserved pricing provides discounted rates ranging from 10% to 50%, depending on the contract terms and server configuration particulars. Equinix underscores that their pricing rubrics parallel those of public cloud service providers.
When budgeting for a project, it’s important to consider costs beyond server expenditure. These auxiliary costs include licensed operating systems, outbound data transfer (egress), storage, and bandwidth expenses. Equinix Metal proffers licensing at a nominal fee but also accommodates those wishing to bring their operating system.

Conclusion
The I/O speed was evaluated thrice, yielding 406 MB/s on the first run, 402 MB/s on the second, and 410 MB/s on the third. The average I/O speed stood at 406.0 MB/s. When benchmarking the server across different nodes, it achieved remarkable upload and download speeds with minimum latency. The server performed exceptionally in the home location of Amsterdam, attaining an upload speed of 3645.57 Mbps and a download speed of 9402.86 Mbps with just 1.05 ms of latency.
The fio Disk Speed Tests also yielded compelling results, particularly with mixed R/W 50/50 operations. For 4k and 64k block sizes, it achieved IOPS in the thousands and sizeable Read/Write/Total in MB/s. For larger block sizes – 512k and 1m – hundreds of IOPS were registered alongside a significant total score measured in MB/s. The Geekbench 6 Benchmark Test was impressive, posting a Single Core score of 1819 and a Multi Core score of 6465.
UnixBench was conducted for CPU Performance, with scores indicating a better value. During this benchmark, tests were first run with a single parallel copy, which achieved high lps (loops per second) and MWIPS (millions of Whetstone instructions per second). A second benchmark was performed with 16 parallel copies, yielding more impressive results. The Dhrystone 2 test, for instance, clocked in at a staggering 550087441.5 lps.
In conclusion, Amsterdam’s Equinix Bare Metal Server is a high-performing and reliable infrastructure. The server delivers exceptional results across various metrics, indicating its powerful hardware capabilities and impressive overall performance. This ensures users can expect a robust, high-quality service when utilizing Equinix’s Bare Metal Server for their demanding organizational needs.
