LunaNode Canada Toronto Intel Core Memory Optimized Virtual Machine Test and Review

In this review, the focus is on the LunaNode Canada Toronto Memory Optimized Shared vCPU VPS Server. The efficiency and reliability of this server are driven by an Intel Core Processor (Skylake, IBRS). Its impressive resources include 4 CPU Cores, 8 GB RAM, and a secure 70 GB SSD Storage. Furthermore, it offers 3 TB Traffic with 1x IPv4 and 1x IPv6.

We’re going to put this server through a series of thorough tests. For starters, we’ve got the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark tests to check out the key metrics. Then, we’ll widen our scope with the Global Node Test for in-depth network analysis and the Global Ping Test to measure how fast it responds.

Next, we’ll see how well it accesses different media platforms with the Media Unlock Test and check its connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test. Lastly, we’ll evaluate its web performance using well-known tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance. By the end of our detailed testing, you’ll know exactly what this server can do.

About LunaNode

LunaNode is a dynamic cloud virtualization platform offering expedited virtual machine (VM) deployment, adjustable hourly billing, snapshot capabilities, and a full-fledged API for streamlined automation. The cost-benefits of LunaNode’s services are noteworthy, offering both virtual machine and block storage deployment at considerably lower rates than its contemporaries.

The differentiated offerings from LunaNode include plans for General-Purpose, Memory-Optimized, and Compute-Optimized tiers designed to fulfill diverse workload requirements. Options for deploying VMs rest on ultra-fast local SSD disks or dependable volumes employing distributed block storage. Volumes are flexible, capable of expansion at any point, and can be swiftly attached to a VM for augmented storage.

LunaNode introduces the handy feature of snapshotting any VM to seize its current disk state. It incorporates live snapshotting utilizing copy-on-write technology, enabling snapshot processes to continue even while a VM is operational. Snapshots function not only as reliable backups but also as templates to spawn more VMs.

For a smooth VM management experience, LunaNode equips users with SSH key injection, startup scripts, a contemporary web console, and a rescue mode. It also provides a shelving feature, significantly cutting costs for dormant VMs. The process is straightforward – one-click VM shelving, which customers pay only for IP addresses and storage.

Admin Control Panel

LunaNode Canada Toronto Intel Core Memory Optimized Virtual Machine Test and Review

The LunaNode Admin Control Panel is a robust instrument designed to optimistically manage your virtual machines (VMs) and associated services. It offers swift VM deployment capabilities, flexible hourly billing, snapshot facilities, and an automation-friendly API. With the power to discontinue your VM at will via the control panel, you only pay for the operational hours. Lunanode operates on a prepaid model, with many payment options, including credit card, PayPal, Bitcoin, and Interac e-Transfer.

This interactive control panel allows users to specify a URL for a custom ISO image or a qcow2 template. Once downloaded, new VMs can be provisioned using the custom operating system. OS installation can be accomplished using VNC with ISO images. Moreover, the control panel lets you capture the live state of your VM via snapshots, which can be used to restore the VM to a previous state or create additional machines.

The LunaNode control panel is equipped with various management tools such as SSH key injection, startup scripts, a state-of-the-art web console, and a rescue mode, all intended to simplify your VM management tasks. You also have the freedom to create block devices of arbitrary sizes (volumes) and attach/detach them to VM instances instantaneously. These volumes reside on a fault-tolerant Ceph RBD cluster for increased reliability.

Furthermore, the control panel lets you fluidly transfer external IP addresses between VMs, which can be particularly handy during application upgrades. Users can test the upgrade on a new VM before finalizing it by shifting the floating IP from the old to the new VM. This transfer action can also be executed via the API, supporting operations like instance failovers.

LunaNode API

LunaNode Canada Toronto Intel Core Memory Optimized Virtual Machine Test and Review

The LunaNode API offers you the power to automate the management of your cloud services. Accessing the API requires an API ID and a key, which can be generated from the API tab in your account. Each API call comprises a category and an action, exemplified by “vm/create,” where ‘vm’ represents the category and ‘create’ is the action. The API call also includes a set of parameters encoded and delivered in the body of the POST request.

LunaNode generously provides open-source libraries for their API in PHP and Python and third-party libraries in languages such as C#, Ruby, and PHP. For a more detailed understanding of the LunaNode API, refer to their comprehensive API Overview documentation.

They also offer practical examples of API usage with their PHP and Python libraries on GitHub. Additionally, for Ruby enthusiasts, an unofficial and unsupported implementation of the LunaNode API for Ruby is readily available on GitHub.

Conclusion

The server’s speed for handling data (I/O Speed) is impressive. It averaged speeds of 152.4 MB/s across three tests, showing it can quickly move a lot of data. It also had excellent upload and download speeds, with top marks in speed tests from places like Los Angeles, Dallas, and Montreal.

When we looked at how fast the server can read and write data to its storage (disk speeds), it proved very efficient across different sizes of data blocks. For example, it could read and write at speeds of about 254 MB/s for small pieces of data (4k block size) and around 1.7 GB/s for larger chunks (512k block size).

In tests measuring the server’s overall power (Geekbench 6 Benchmark), it scored high numbers that show it’s very powerful, both for tasks that use one core (970) and for those that use multiple cores (2828). Another test, the UnixBench test, showed the server is much faster than the average, especially in complex calculations and processing operations.

Overall, the LunaNode Canada Toronto Memory Optimized Shared vCPU VPS Server performs excellently in all key areas, including handling and moving data, storage efficiency, and raw processing power. It’s a strong choice for anyone who needs a powerful server.
