Conclusion
Performance-wise, the results were quite good for the price. The CPU benchmark (Geekbench 6) showed decent single-core (435) and multi-core (330) scores, suggesting it can handle basic web hosting or small applications without issue. Memory speed was impressive, hitting over 21 GB/s read and nearly 13 GB/s write in quick tests. The NVMe storage shone, delivering fast read and write speeds, especially noticeable in the sequential tests (around 395 MB/s write, 209 MB/s read) and showing solid random performance (IOPS) crucial for responsiveness.
Network speeds were generally strong, especially within the UK and Europe. We saw excellent speeds connecting to London (under 7ms ping) and Amsterdam (over 900 Mbps receive). Connections to the US East Coast were also respectable, hovering around 300 Mbps. As expected, speeds dropped for far-off locations like Asia or South America but remained usable. This VPS seems well-connected, particularly for users targeting a European audience.
Interestingly, this VPS worked perfectly for streaming UK content, unlocking services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video without a problem. However, IP address checks revealed it’s flagged as a hosting/proxy IP by several databases, scoring high on fraud detection metrics. This didn’t stop basic Google searches but might cause issues with stricter websites or services. Email capabilities were also mixed; while many standard ports were open, some secure ports for major providers like Gmail and Outlook were blocked, limiting its use as a primary mail server.
The SmartHost KVM NVME SSD Linux VPS offers impressive core performance (CPU, RAM, NVMe disk) for its very low price. Network speeds are solid, especially within Europe, and it’s great for accessing UK streaming content. The main things to keep in mind are the IP address reputation, which could affect certain online activities, and the limitations on some email ports. Overall, it’s a strong contender for general-purpose tasks, development environments, or as a personal VPN, particularly if your focus is within the UK/EU.
