Conclusion
During our evaluations, we found that the server struggled with memory-intensive tasks. Geekbench 5 and 6 tests failed due to the limited 1 GB RAM, recommending the addition of a swap file or an upgrade for better performance. Despite this, the CPU performed well in the Sysbench test, scoring 3,860 points, which shows it can handle processing tasks effectively. Memory read and write speeds were impressive, with read rates reaching over 43 GB/s and write rates above 20 GB/s, ensuring quick data handling.
Disk performance was a strong point for this VPS. The server achieved high read and write speeds in our disk tests, especially with larger block sizes. For example, it reached over 1 GB/s in both read and write operations, demonstrating excellent storage capabilities. Network tests using iperf3 showed strong speeds, particularly within the United States. Connections to locations like Los Angeles and New York delivered gigabit speeds with low latency, ensuring fast and reliable internet performance.
Most platforms worked well on this server when it came to streaming services. Services like YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime Video, and Spotify were accessible, while some like Disney+ faced IP bans and Netflix was limited to original content only. This suggests that while the serverβs IP is generally reliable, there may be restrictions with certain streaming providers. Additionally, email port tests showed mixed results, with standard services like SMTP and POP3 functioning correctly, but others like Gmail and ProtonMail not being supported.
In conclusion, the SalmonCloud San Jose VPS offers strong CPU and disk performance, making it suitable for tasks that require fast processing and data handling. However, the limited 1 GB of RAM may hinder memory-intensive applications unless upgraded. Network connectivity is robust in key regions, and most streaming and email services work well, making this VPS a solid choice for a variety of hosting needs.
