Conclusion
While memory read/write speeds were impressive (around 14.5GB/s and 9.8GB/s respectively), the SSD performance lagged, showing only around 90MB/s for 4K random read/write. This could be a bottleneck for applications requiring fast disk I/O. Geekbench 5 scores were modest (566 single-core, 1076 multi-core), indicating average processing power for the price point. Geekbench 6 testing, however, failed, requiring further investigation.
Network performance was a bright spot. We saw fast speeds to US servers but speeds to other regions were around 170Mbps, which is still acceptable for many users. Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video worked flawlessly in the US region. However, the IP address was flagged as a data center/hosting IP, and it showed signs of previous VPN use. This might affect certain applications or services sensitive to IP reputation.
Email port testing revealed that the most common email ports were open, suggesting good compatibility with the email server. The IP quality checks revealed mixed results, with some databases classifying it as a data center IP, potentially impacting deliverability for some email services. The overall security score was relatively low, primarily due to the VPN usage history. This is something to consider if you’re running sensitive applications.
In conclusion, Hostman’s $4/month San Jose server offers a viable option for basic web hosting needs, especially if you primarily target a US audience. However, the slow SSD, average processing power, and questionable IP reputation should be carefully considered. It’s a good budget choice but might not be suitable for demanding applications or those requiring a high IP reputation. Further investigation into the Geekbench 6 failure is also recommended.
