OVHcloud USA Dallas Public Cloud AMD EPYC General Purpose Instance Test and Review

We tested OVHcloud‘s Dallas-based B3-16 General Purpose instance. This AMD EPYC-powered server boasts 4 cores, 16GB of RAM, a 100GB SSD, and a 1Gbps network connection. Our testing aimed to assess its performance across various metrics relevant to web hosting, including processing power, memory speed, disk I/O, network throughput, and essential services for online businesses.

Conclusion

Geekbench 6 results showed decent single-core performance in 2007 and multi-core performance at 5539. Memory tests revealed solid read/write speeds, averaging around 78GB/s for reads and 67GB/s for writes. Disk performance was also respectable, with the SSD delivering read/write speeds exceeding 1GB/s for larger block sizes, indicating good performance for file transfers and database operations. These results suggest the B3-16 is suitable for handling moderate website traffic and applications.

Network testing using iperf3 demonstrated the server’s ability to reach near gigabit speeds, especially with US-based servers. Connections to international locations showed varied results, likely influenced by geographic distance and peering agreements.
