We tested Spaceship USA‘s Arizona Starlight Standard virtual machine (Standard 2 plan). This server packs an AMD EPYC 7742 64-core Processor, but our plan included 2 cores, 4GB RAM, 60GB NVMe SSD storage, a 1 Gbps port, and one IPv4 address.

Conclusion

Our initial benchmark focused on I/O speeds, crucial for fast read/write operations. Averaging an impressive 1126.4 MB/s across three runs, the server delivered excellent disk performance, exceeding our expectations for this tier of virtual machine. This suggests smooth operation for websites and applications requiring rapid data access.

Network performance testing revealed mixed results. While download speeds consistently hovered near the advertised 1 Gbps within the US, international speeds fluctuated significantly. Locations like Amsterdam and Shanghai showed reasonable download speeds, but upload speeds suffered, particularly in Asian regions. Hong Kong and Singapore, for example, experienced drastically reduced upload and download speeds.

Yabs benchmarks further explored the server’s capabilities. Mixed read/write tests using various block sizes confirmed the excellent I/O performance observed earlier. The server handled larger block sizes exceptionally well, reaching speeds exceeding 7 GB/s, indicating efficient handling of large file transfers and database operations. This reinforces the server’s suitability for data-intensive applications.

Geekbench 6 results provided insight into processing power. With a single-core score of 821 and a multi-core score of 1471, the server performed adequately. While not reaching the “excellent” range, the scores fall within a respectable range for a 2-core setup. This suggests sufficient processing power for everyday tasks and moderately demanding applications, but users requiring high single-core performance for CPU-intensive tasks might need to consider higher-tier plans.

In conclusion, the Spaceship USA Arizona Starlight Standard 2 plan offers excellent disk performance and reasonable processing power.
