SurferCloud Taipei UHost AMD EPYC Enterprise-level Cloud Computing Server Test and Review
We tested the SurferCloud Taipei UHost Enterprise server, an AMD EPYC-powered machine with 2 cores, 4GB RAM, and a 40GB SSD. Our benchmark tests revealed some performance limitations. The I/O speed averaged just 139.3 MB/s, indicating poor disk performance for tasks requiring frequent read/write operations. The 20Mbps internet port also proved to be a bottleneck, as our network tests showed download speeds capped around 50Mbps, even with low latency to nearby Asian locations.

Conclusion
The Geekbench 6 benchmark results offered a brighter spot. A single-core score of 1262 and a multi-core score of 2210 suggest decent processing power for a server of this configuration. This performance level should handle basic web hosting tasks and light application workloads effectively. However, more demanding applications or high-traffic websites might struggle.
Yabs benchmark results further highlighted the storage limitations. The mixed read/write speeds, especially with smaller block sizes, reinforce the I/O bottleneck identified earlier. This could impact database performance and overall server responsiveness under load.
UnixBench results provided a comprehensive look at CPU performance. The server performed admirably in tests like Dhrystone and Double-Precision Whetstone, demonstrating good single-threaded performance. However, the relatively low scores in file copy tests, especially with smaller buffer sizes, again point towards the storage subsystem being a limiting factor. The overall UnixBench index score of 2760 with two parallel test copies confirms decent multi-core performance.
Finally, the limited RAM (4GB) will likely constrain the server’s ability to handle multiple concurrent processes or memory-intensive applications. While suitable for basic web hosting or small projects, resource-intensive tasks will quickly exhaust the available memory.
In conclusion, the SurferCloud Taipei UHost Enterprise server offers adequate processing power for its price point, thanks to the AMD EPYC processor. However, the slow I/O, limited RAM, and 20Mbps internet port significantly restrict its performance potential. This server is best suited for individuals or small businesses with low-traffic websites or lightweight applications. Users with more demanding requirements should consider a higher-tier server with improved storage, RAM, and network bandwidth.
