We recently tested Exoscale‘s Extra-Large CPU Optimized On-demand Cloud Server (Plan: Extra-Large). This server, located in Vienna, Austria, runs on an Intel Core Processor (Broadwell, no TSX). It boasts 8 CPU cores, 16 GB of RAM, 50 GB SSD storage, a 1 Gbps internet port, and one IPv4 address.

The Exoscale portal is designed to be user-friendly and straightforward. It allows you to easily manage your resources, such as virtual machines or Kubernetes clusters. You can also contact their support directly in the portal if you need help.
When registering your account, you will create at least one Organization. You can think of an Organization as an isolated workspace where you can invite people and store your resources. Once your registration is complete, you will land on the web portal and be able to start operating the different services on the platform.
The portal also allows you to register your European or Swiss VAT number during the registration process if you identify yourself as a Company. Established companies with a proven line of credit can request access to post-paid billing with wire transfers after a manual vetting process.

Payments
Exoscale supports multiple currencies, including CHF, EUR, and USD. They accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards and support 3D secure payment verification for payment methods. They also accept PayPal, but only in Pre-Paid Mode.
Exoscale provides two billing modes: Pre-paid and Post-paid. In the Pre-paid mode, you add funds to your organization before consuming resources. When your organization’s balance reaches zero, the organization is suspended. Therefore, keeping the credit in your account topped up is crucial to avoid suspension.
Post-paid mode allows you to register one or more credit cards and consume resources freely. Every month, Exoscale automatically charges your default credit card for the amount you have consumed. Established companies with a proven line of credit can request access to post-paid billing with wire transfers after a manual vetting process.
Exoscale ensures the safety of your credit card details by storing them with their payment processing partner, Adyen. Exoscale does not store credit card details. You can manage your credit cards and add a new one in the Credit Card Management view. When adding a new credit card, remember to set it as default in your credit card list if you want it to be your default payment method.

Conclusion
The server’s I/O speed averaged a respectable 368 MB/s, placing it in the mid-range category. Network performance was highlighted, with excellent upload and download speeds across various global locations. Amsterdam stood out with blazing fast speeds of 4317 Mbps upload and 9245 Mbps download.
In the Yabs Performance Bench, the server showed strong disk speeds, especially in larger block sizes. The Geekbench 6 results were solid, with a single-core score of 1176 and a multi-core score of 6112, indicating good processing power for most tasks. The UnixBench tests further confirmed the server’s capabilities, with powerful results in multi-core performance.
