VMHaus United Kingdom London Hourly Billing SSD Cloud Server Test and Review
We recently tested the VMHaus UK London Hourly Billing SSD Cloud Server (Plan: VMH-4GB). It uses an Intel Xeon E312xx (Sandy Bridge) Processor and comes with 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB storage, a 1 Gbps internet port, and 8 TB of traffic.
Our review includes several performance tests: Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark. We check network speeds from different locations with the Global Node Test and measure latency with the Global Ping Test. For media access, we use The Media Unlock Test. The CloudFlare Internet Test helps us evaluate connection quality. Lastly, we test web performance using PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.
About VMHaus
VMHaus is a company that provides cloud servers, but what sets them apart is their commitment to performance and quality. They have consciously decided to place all instances on high-speed SSD disks. This means that users can say goodbye to the sluggish performance of mechanical drives and hello to the lightning-fast speeds of solid-state drives.
One of the standout features of VMHaus is the inclusion of BGP Sessions with all instances. For those with their own Autonomous System Number (ASN) or IP Prefix, VMHaus is a welcoming home. This feature allows users to bring their identifiers, making the transition to VMHaus seamless and hassle-free.
VMHaus is not just about great features and competitive pricing. It’s also about location. They have servers available in London, Fremont, and Amsterdam. This geographical diversity ensures that no matter where you are in the world, you can enjoy the high-performance services of VMHaus.
In terms of ownership, VMHaus was acquired by Mythic Beasts, a privately owned hosting provider, in November 2018. This acquisition has allowed VMHaus to leverage the resources and expertise of Mythic Beasts, further enhancing their service offerings.
Finally, let’s talk about their network. VMHaus is located in Digital Realty’s Sovereign House in London. Their premium network blend currently includes Arelion/Telia and NTT. They are also peered with many ISPs and Content Providers on LINX LON1 & LON2. This robust network infrastructure ensures that users enjoy reliable and high-speed connectivity.

Admin Control Panel
Let’s delve into the heart of VMHaus’s services, their Admin Control Panel. This is where users interact with their services, designed with user-friendliness.
Firstly, the billing happens in the Admin Control Panel. VMHaus has integrated an hourly billing system into its control panel. You only pay for your hours, providing a fair and transparent pricing model.
Secondly, the control panel is also where users can manage their BGP Sessions. If you have your own Autonomous System Number (ASN) or IP Prefix, you can bring them here. This feature simplifies the transition to VMHaus, making it a smooth and hassle-free process.
Moreover, the control panel allows users to open a support ticket if they encounter any issues. This ensures that help is just a few clicks away, providing users with peace of mind.
Interestingly, the control panel also holds cryptographically hashed copies of passwords. This means the passwords remain secure even if there’s a data breach. It’s a testament to VMHaus’s commitment to security.
Server Pricing
VMHaus has adopted an hourly billing system built into its control panel. This means that users only pay for what they use. It’s a fair and transparent pricing model that ensures users get the most bang for their buck.
VMHaus offers a variety of plans to cater to different needs, from the VMH-512MB plan, which offers 512 MB of RAM and 10 GB of SSD storage, to the VMH-4GB plan, which offers 4 GB of RAM and 50 GB of SSD storage.
Each plan has a certain number of CPU cores and a specific amount of data transfer at 1Gbps. This variety ensures that whether you’re a small business owner or a large enterprise, there’s a plan that fits your needs.

Users can open a support ticket directly from the VMHaus Admin Control Panel if they encounter any issues. This feature ensures that help is always just a few clicks away, providing users peace of mind.
Conclusion
First, we used a benchmark to measure I/O, upload, and download speeds. On average, the I/O speed was around 280.3 MB/s, which is below the optimal threshold of 500 MB/s but still decent for many applications. The upload and download speeds impressed us, especially on nearby servers like those in Amsterdam, where speeds were nearly 2 Gbps. Global connectivity showed varying results, with lower speeds in distant locations like Singapore and some parts of China.
Next, in the Yabs Performance Bench, disk speed tests for read and write operations showed good results, consistently above 500 MB/s for larger block sizes. This suggests the server handles larger data transfers well, which is critical for heavy-duty applications. The Geekbench 6 benchmark rated the server with a single-core score of 574 and a multi-core score of 1927, indicating standard to good performance, suitable for general purposes and tasks that benefit from multi-threading.
The UnixBench test provided a deeper look into CPU performance. The server scored impressively in several areas, especially in multi-core tests. Scores like 133,360,321.1 lps in Dhrystone and 2,134,511.1 lps in pipe throughput highlight robust processing power. However, file copy and shell script execution saw mixed results, showing excellent scores in high-concurrency scenarios but room for improvement in single-thread scenarios.
In conclusion, the VMHaus UK London SSD Cloud Server offers solid performance for general and specific high-demand applications. Its strong network speeds, particularly in Europe, combined with good CPU and disk performance, make it a reliable choice. However, if your needs include extremely high I/O speeds consistently above 500 MB/s, you might need to consider other options. Overall, it’s a competitive server for various practical uses.
