Equinix Ireland Dublin Intel Xeon E-2278G On Demand Bare Metal Server Test and Review

We recently tested the Equinix Ireland Dublin On Demand Bare Metal Server. This powerful server comes with an Intel Xeon E-2378G Processor (8 cores running at 2.80GHz), 64GB of RAM, two 480GB SSDs for storage, two super-fast 25Gbps internet ports, Intel UHD Graphics P750, and both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

In our review, we ran many tests to see how well it performs. We looked at its basic performance using the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark. We tested network speeds from different locations with the Global Node Test and checked how quickly it responded with the Global Ping Test.

Our team also checked how well it can access media content with The Media Unlock Test, measured connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test, and evaluated web performance using tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.

About Equinix

Firstly, let’s talk about what Equinix Bare Metal Servers are. They are a part of Equinix Metal, a service that provides on-demand, high-performance bare metal servers. These servers are directly integrated with Equinix Fabric, allowing you to deploy powerful infrastructure across global locations in minutes.

Now, you might be wondering why you chose Equinix Bare Metal Servers. The answer lies in their unique features. One of the standout features is rapid provisioning. Setting up and deploying a single service on Equinix Metal takes only minutes. A full end-to-end deployment can run in an hour, enabling you to be faster-to-market with applications.

Moreover, Equinix Metal servers provide 100% dedicated single-tenancy. This means you can isolate sensitive workloads and access hardware-level security protocols. Security is a top priority for Equinix, and they’ve ensured that their servers offer the highest level of protection.

But that’s not all. Equinix Metal also offers expanded global reach. You can discover and reach anyone on demand — cloud, sellers, partners, vendors, customers, and employees — through one connection. This feature allows you to connect a database or application tier on any cloud to another database or application tier in the cloud, as well as internal and external cloud services.

Equinix Metal servers are also optimized for common workloads. They are available on-demand in minutes in the most popular metros. The servers come in various configurations, each designed to cater to different needs.

Admin Control Panel

Equinix Ireland Dublin Intel Xeon E-2278G On Demand Bare Metal Server Test and Review

Let’s delve into the Equinix Metal Admin Control Panel, a key component of the Equinix Metal ecosystem. This web-based interface is your command center for managing your Equinix Metal account.

Firstly, the console’s home page is divided into several main parts. These include Organizations, Projects, Resources, and Personal sections. Each of these sections plays a crucial role in managing your infrastructure.

Starting with organizations, this is the highest level of resource collating. Each organization has billing, users, and permissions. This section lets you pick an organization with which to work or create a new one.

Next, we have Projects. Resources like servers and networking are organized into projects within each organization. This section lets you choose which project to work on inside an organization or create new ones.

Then, there are Resources. These are the actual metal resources for your project. They include computing resources (servers), networking resources, private interconnections to other resources, projects, clouds, and settings.

Payments

When you create an Equinix Metal™ organization, you must enter a payment method. This can be either a credit card or a PayPal account. A billing address is also required.

If you opt for a credit card, certain details are necessary. These include the name on the card, credit card number, expiration month and year, CVV code, country, and zip code. On the other hand, if you choose PayPal, you will be directed to log in to your PayPal account and authorize Equinix Metal to charge your PayPal account.

Once your account and organization are established, you can update and change your payment method anytime. It’s important to note that you must have a primary payment method associated with your organization if there is at least one project in that organization.

In your organization, all payment methods are listed in the Payment Methods tab. Billing information is available to an organization’s Owner, Admins, and those with the Billing role. If you have received a code for a credit towards your next invoice, you can enter it on the Billing tab. The credit will be applied to the next month’s invoice.

Enterprises or organizations that want to be billed on terms instead of using a credit card or PayPal for automated charges can contact their account manager or the customer success team at [email protected]. Equinix Metal then makes the account information to pay your invoices available on the Payment Methods page.

In addition to the Admin Control Panel, Equinix Metal offers Live Chat support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This secure channel lets you connect quickly with their support team for real-time assistance. It’s important to note that Live Chat is available in English only.

Furthermore, Equinix Metal provides email support. You can drop them a line at [email protected] for non-urgent requests. They are available 24/7/365 to assist you.

Conclusion

The server’s I/O speeds hovered around 437 MB/s, starting with the Basic Bench tests. While these speeds are below the excellent mark of 1000 MB/s, they still classify as good according to our grading scale. The network tests showed impressive upload and download speeds across global locations, especially noteworthy in Amsterdam, with upload speeds hitting over 5 Gbps and download speeds almost touching 10 Gbps. The Yabs Performance Bench showed mixed read and write speeds across various block sizes, peaking at around 479 MB/s for larger blocks, which keeps us in the “good” performance territory.

The Geekbench 6 Benchmark Test revealed a single-core score 2459, signaling excellent processing power for tasks that rely on single-core performance. The multi-core score was no slouch either, racking up a solid 9967, which indicates this server can handle a hefty workload. In UnixBench tests, the server showed exceptional strength in multi-tasking and parallel processing scenarios, highlighting its robust CPU performance and efficiency under load.

In conclusion, the Equinix Ireland Dublin On Demand Bare Metal Server showed off some serious chops in our testing. Despite the I/O speeds not hitting the top tier, the excellent single-core performance and strong network capabilities position this server as a capable choice for various applications, from web hosting to more intensive computational tasks. Whether you’re looking to run demanding applications or host content for a global audience, this server is built to deliver.
