Oblivus Canada Montreal Intel Xeon v3 Cloud Virtual Server Test and Review
We recently tested the Oblivus Canada Montreal Cloud Virtual Server. This cloud server runs on an Intel Core Processor (Haswell, no TSX, IBRS) and comes packed with 4 CPU cores, 4 GB of RAM, 60 GB of SSD storage, a 10 Gbps internet connection, no limits on data usage, and one IPv4 address.
Here’s what our review covers: We put the server through a series of tests to gauge its performance, including Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark. We ran the Global Node Test to assess network speeds from various locations and to check how fast it responds.
For media accessibility, we used The Media Unlock Test. We checked connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test and evaluated web performance using PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.

Firstly, the portal allows you to manage your instances with ease. You can change operating system images and make hardware adjustments. However, remember that most of these operations can only be performed when your instances are stopped.
Next, the portal provides a quick menu in the Manage column. You can navigate the detailed management screen by clicking on the instance ID. This is where you can perform all the operations mentioned earlier.
Moreover, Oblivus offers a free subdomain service called Oblivus Subdomain Service (OSS) for easier access to your instance. You can also change the state of your instance using the buttons on the right side.
In addition, the portal allows you to reinstall your instance’s operating system or image while preserving the current configuration. This feature can be particularly useful if the boot process takes longer than expected during the instance creation.
Furthermore, when your instance is in a stopped state, you can modify its hardware configuration. However, there are some restrictions. For example, you cannot change the location, platform, operating system, or storage type. Also, you cannot specify an amount lower than your current storage size when adjusting the storage.

Payments
Oblivus operates on a pre-paid balance system. You can top up your account with any amount of credit using your preferred payment method. This system provides full visibility of your usage and spending, making the billing process transparent and easy to understand.
Next, let’s talk about the Auto Top-Up feature for individual accounts. When you top up your account for the first time, your credit card gets registered with Oblivus’ payment provider, Revolut. You can set a low limit and a top-up amount on the Auto Top-Up page in the console.
When your account balance falls below the low limit you set, it will automatically be topped up with the specified amount. This feature ensures you never run out of balance and can continue using the services without interruption.
Moreover, Oblivus offers an exclusive Pay-As-You-Go system for business users. You need to set a minimum limit of $500, which can be adjusted later. This limit will determine your monthly usage quota while the system is active.
You need to pay twice the selected limit to activate the Pay-As-You-Go system. The remaining half of the payment is held as a security deposit and is never used. After each billing cycle, your limit will be reset to the pre-configured PAYG Threshold.

Conclusion
In our tests, the server showed impressive I/O speeds, averaging 1262.9 MB/s across multiple runs, which falls into the ‘excellent’ category. The upload and download speeds across various global nodes were solid, with standout performances in Dallas, US, for upload speeds and in Mumbai, IN, and Tokyo, JP, for download speed and latency, indicating a robust global reach. The Yabs Performance Bench further highlighted the server’s capabilities, with disk speeds in mixed read/write operations showcasing high efficiency, especially at larger block sizes where it delivered over 3.33 GB/s.
The Geekbench 6 Benchmark Test results were promising, with a single-core score of 1118 and a multi-core score of 3363, indicating ‘good’ performance levels for individual and combined core usage. The UnixBench scores further solidified the server’s high CPU performance across various tasks, with an overall index score of 2904.2 when running four parallel copies of the tests, demonstrating excellent adaptability and processing power for demanding operations.
