OVHcloud United States Oregon Public Cloud Discovery Instance Test and Review
This time, we’re testing the OVHcloud United States Oregon Public Cloud Discovery Instance. It runs on an Intel Core Processor (Haswell, no TSX) and comes with this setup: 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB SSD storage, a 250 Mbps internet connection, one IPv4 address, and one IPv6 address.
We’re putting it through many tests to see how well it performs. We’ll start with basic tests – the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark – to check out the essential numbers. Then, we’ll dive into the Global Node Test to see how the network does worldwide and the Global Ping Test to measure how fast it can respond.
We’re also checking if it can access various media services with the Media Unlock Test, testing its connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test, and looking at how well websites perform on it using PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance.
About OVHcloud
OVHcloud’s Public Cloud is a remarkable environment that combines a vast array of cloud products. These products, compatible with each other, cater to short-term and long-term usage, ranging from a few hours to several years.
Let’s delve into the ecosystem approach of the Public Cloud. This approach views all the products available in the Public Cloud, such as servers, Kubernetes clusters, and disk volumes, as part of an interconnected ecosystem. Each product serves a specific function and addresses a particular need. You can use them individually or with other items in the catalog.
For instance, you can use an instance, an on-demand server, with storage elements like object storage. If your application requires a database, the Public Cloud catalog has a product to fulfill this need. All these components integrate seamlessly into an environment, simplifying the deployment and utilization of these resources.
The Public Cloud offers on-demand resources, meaning you can start resources like an instance or a Kubernetes cluster in seconds. You can delete these resources a few hours later and only pay for the time you used them.
The Public Cloud catalog provides low-level resources, such as private instances or networks, and managed resources in higher layers, like a database. These resources are available as a service, meaning you don’t need to purchase the elements; you can use them for a time, like a rental, and pay only for the duration of use.
