ServerPoint USA Ashburn ColossusCloud General Purpose VPS Test and Review
We’ve tested the ServerPoint USA‘s Ashburn ColossusCloud General Purpose VPS Server. This server is equipped with an Intel Xeon E5-2683 v4 Processor clocked at 2.10GHz, and it’s set up with the following specs: a 4-core CPU, 4GB of memory, 80GB of SSD storage, a super-fast 1Gbps internet connection, and includes 4TB of data traffic along with one IPv4 and one IPv6 address.
In our review, we run a series of tests to see how well this server performs. We’ll start with the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark to get a grip on the essential numbers, like how fast and responsive the server is. We’re also going deep with the Global Node Test to check the network performance worldwide and the Global Ping Test to measure how quickly the server responds to requests.
We’ve also got the Media Unlock Test on our list, which tells us whether the server can access content from different providers. The CloudFlare Internet Test will fill us in on the quality of the server’s connection to the web. Plus, we’ll look at how well websites run on this server with tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance, which are all about loading times and user experience.

Conclusion
Starting with the I/O speeds reflecting how quickly the server can read and write data, our server showed a middling performance, averaging 242.7 MB/s over three runs. These numbers suggest that it’s capable, though not topping the charts. Network performance was a mix, with excellent download speeds peaking above 1 Gbps in some locations, which was particularly impressive coming from Speedtest.net’s 1154.31 Mbps download speed.
The Yabs performance tests revealed varying results: while the smaller 4k block sizes hovered just under 100 MB/s total, the larger blocks ramped up the performance significantly, especially the 512k and 1m blocks hitting over 800 MB/s, demonstrating strong capabilities for handling larger files. Regarding CPU prowess as gauged by Geekbench, our server’s single-core score was a tad underwhelming at 790, but the multi-core score flew past the 2500 mark, indicating excellent performance for tasks that spread their load across multiple cores.
The UnixBench score offered us a detailed peek into the server’s raw processing muscle. Under single-threaded tests, our server performed admirably well, with scores that one would expect from a reliable VPS. It truly shined in multi-threaded tests, with scores that speak to the server’s ability to manage a host of applications simultaneously without breaking a sweat.
In conclusion, the ColossusCloud VPS struts a commendable multi-core CPU performance, robust handling of large file operations, and solid network capabilities with high download speeds. However, it shows room for improvement in single-core CPU tasks and I/O operations with smaller files. It’s an option worth considering for users who prioritize strong multi-threaded server performance and manage large files regularly.
