phoenixNAP USA Seattle Intel Xeon E-2388G Bare Metal Cloud Single CPU Instances Test and Review

We will test the Seattle Bare Metal Cloud Servers from phoenixNAP in the USA. These servers run on a single Intel Xeon E-2388G processor with 8 cores at 3.2GHz. They’re configured with 64GB of DDR4 RAM, 1TB of NVMe storage, and a speedy 20Gbps internet connection.

Our review is going to cover quite a few checks. We’ll run the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark to see how the server handles everyday tasks. To test the network thoroughly, we’re doing the Global Node Test, and we’ll measure how quickly the server responds with the Global Ping Test.

We also want to see if there are any regional restrictions, so we’ve got the Media Unlock Test on our list. To check on how the server connects to the rest of the internet, we’ll use the CloudFlare Internet Test. Lastly, we’ll see how fast this server can deliver web content with the help of PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance tests.

About phoenixNAP

PhoenixNAP Bare Metal Cloud (BMC) is a powerful, flexible, and scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution. It’s designed to meet the evolving needs of businesses looking for agility, security, and control over their IT resources.

At its core, BMC offers dedicated, single-tenant servers that combine the control and performance of traditional bare metal servers with the flexibility and scalability of the cloud. This means you get the raw horsepower of dedicated hardware and the ability to scale up or down as your needs change.

One of the key features of BMC is its automation capabilities. With BMC, you can automate server deployments, configurations, and scaling operations using popular infrastructure such as code (IaC) tools. This can significantly speed up your workflows and reduce the risk of human error.

BMC also offers a wide range of server configurations from which to choose. Whether you need a high-frequency CPU for compute-intensive workloads, a high-capacity RAM for memory-intensive applications, or a high-performance SSD for fast data access, BMC has a server configuration that fits your needs.

Finally, BMC offers transparent, pay-as-you-go pricing. You only pay for what you use, with no hidden fees or long-term contracts. This makes it a cost-effective choice for businesses of all sizes.

PhoenixNAP’s Bare Metal Cloud (BMC) is an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution that combines dedicated servers’ power and performance with cloud computing’s flexibility and scalability.

Dedicated, Single-Tenant Servers: BMC provides dedicated servers not shared with other users. This ensures optimal performance and security for your applications.

Automation Capabilities: BMC allows you to automate server deployments, configurations, and scaling operations using popular infrastructure such as code (IaC) tools. This can help streamline your workflows and reduce errors.

Wide Range of Server Configurations: Whether you need a high-frequency CPU, high-capacity RAM, or high-performance SSD, BMC offers a variety of server configurations to meet your specific needs.

High Network Performance: BMC provides low-latency, high-bandwidth connectivity, essential for applications requiring real-time data processing or fast data transfer.

Robust Security Features: With full system isolation, DDoS protection, and hardware-based security measures, BMC offers robust security for your data and applications.

Payments

PhoenixNAP accepts various payment options, including Credit / Debit / Prepaid Cards, PayPal, and Wire. They offer two main payment methods for the cloud services:

Hourly Billing: This is a pay-as-you-go model where you are billed by the hour for the instance type you select in the Bare Metal Cloud portal. There are no contractual obligations or pre-payments required. In this model, each incomplete hour is charged as a full hour. It’s important to note that powering off your server does not stop hourly billing. To cancel hourly billing, you must delete the server.

Server Reservation: This method allows you to reserve hardware resources for a specific period. This can be beneficial if you have long-term needs and want to ensure the availability of resources.

A defined threshold amount is $100 for new and some existing accounts. Whenever you reach the threshold, you receive an invoice via email immediately, and the system sends an invoice on your monthly billing date for any leftover costs.

Conclusion

Regarding input/output operations, the servers maintained a consistent performance with an average I/O speed of 802.7 MB/s, which falls well within the ‘good’ category and skirts the edge of ‘excellent.’ Network speed was impressive, especially within the US, peaking at an upload speed of over 3 Gbps in Los Angeles and a download speed upwards of 13 Gbps in the same location.

The Yabs Performance Bench showed robust disk speeds with mixed read/write operations, confidently sitting in the ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ brackets. This suggests that the servers can handle intensive workloads efficiently. Further, the Geekbench 6 Benchmark portrayed the CPU performance as excellent, with a single-core score of 2580 and a multi-core tally of 10236. On the UnixBench scale, the servers demonstrated strong CPU performances, with the Process Creation and Shell Scripts tests, in particular, indicating high efficiency under load.

In conclusion, the Seattle Bare Metal Cloud Servers perform admirably across various benchmarks, indicating they’re well-suited for demanding tasks and applications. Their standout network speeds within the US and solid I/O throughput make them a reliable choice for businesses that require robust and consistent server performance. International performance may vary, but the servers exhibit the qualities necessary for a wide range of web hosting needs.
