OVHcloud United States Ashburn Public Cloud Discovery Instance Test and Review
Today, we’re checking out OVHcloud‘s starter server in Ashburn, USA. It’s got an Intel processor with pretty standard specs: 2 CPU cores, 4 GB of memory, 50 GB of fast SSD storage, and an internet connection speed of 250 Mbps. It comes with one IPv4 and one IPv6 address.
Our hands-on review covers several key tests. We’ll start with the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and the Unix Benchmark to get a feel for its performance. Next, we’ll run the Global Node Test and Global Ping Test to check network speeds and responsiveness.
Lastly, we’ll check whether this service can access different media with the Media Unlock Test, ensure a solid connection via the CloudFlare Internet Test, and judge web performance with PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix scores.

Conclusion
Starting with the all-important I/O speeds, the server didn’t disappoint, pushing out an impressive average of 1020.1 MB/s, hurling it well into the ‘excellent’ territory. Network performance was a mixed bag—while the speeds were consistently solid, peaking at 240 Mbps in several locations, there was some noticeable delay when reaching places farther afield, like Shanghai or Singapore. However, the server’s ability to maintain solid speeds across such distances is commendable.
Our beast of a machine tore through the Yabs Performance test with gusto, putting in a beefy showing across the board. Read and write speeds sat comfortably in the gigabyte per second range, nudging the needle into ‘excellent.’ The Geekbench 6 scores told us that, for single-core performance, you’re getting a standard experience. It didn’t set the world on fire, but it’s nothing to sneeze at. Multi-core performance is equally dependable, and while it won’t be breaking any records, it’s more than adequate for regular tasks.
UnixBench painted a detailed picture of the CPU’s capabilities, with scores that say the server can multitask like a pro when the heat is on. When we asked it to juggle multiple tasks, it doubled its performance. This tells us that loading the server with your demanding apps won’t break a sweat.
Wrapping it all up, OVHcloud’s starter pack provides good value for price-conscious customers. Its excellent disk speeds and reliable multitasking prowess make it a trustworthy option for small businesses or developers who need a solid, no-fuss server that can easily handle data-heavy projects. Remember the latency for far-off locations; otherwise, this server punches above its weight.
