Virtono Japan Tokyo KVM-based Cloud VPS Hosting Test and Review

In this post, we’re taking a closer look at Virtono‘s cloud VPS hosting based in Tokyo, Japan. We’re putting a server to the test that runs on a strong Intel Xeon Gold 5218 processor clocked at 2.3GHz. It has a decent setup—2 CPU cores, 2 GB of RAM, 50 GB of SSD storage, a fast 1 Gbps network connection, 2 TB of traffic allowance, and an IPv4 and an IPv6 address.

We put this hosting to the test using some straightforward tools and methods. We’re talking about basic performance checks, looking at how fast and stable it is with various benchmarks like Yabs and Unix Benchmark. We’ll check the connection strength globally and see how quickly it communicates with different parts of the world.

We’re also looking into how well it can access media from different regions and analyzing the quality of its connection to the Cloudflare network. Lastly, we’ll see how well websites perform on this host with tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix, which tell us how quick and efficient they are.

About Virtono

Virtono is a renowned cloud hosting service provider, offering various solutions to cater to diverse needs. They offer services such as Website Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Cloud VPS, and Dedicated Servers, both managed and unmanaged.

Their Cloud VPS (Virtual Private Server) service is particularly noteworthy. It’s a self-managed, KVM-based VPS that operates on Virtono’s Global Cloud Infrastructure. This service gives users more power and control over their hosting environment.

One of the key features of Virtono’s Cloud VPS service is its use of Solid State Drives (SSDs) to maximize read/write speeds. SSDs are known for their high performance, which can significantly enhance the speed of a VPS. In addition to SSDs, Virtono utilizes RAID storage to improve write speed, IOps, and fault tolerance.

Virtono’s infrastructure is connected to multiple 10Gbps links, ensuring a fast network. This is crucial for businesses that rely on their websites for operations, as a slow network can lead to downtime and loss of revenue.

Virtono also offers root access to the Cloud and Dedicated servers. This means users have admin privileges, giving them full control over their servers. This is particularly useful for businesses that customize their servers to meet specific needs.

Conclusion

Starting with the Basic Bench, we found that the I/O speed consistently hovered around 359.7 MB/s, a decent performance, though not top tier. The upload and download speeds varied depending on the global location but were particularly impressive in Asia, peaking at 753.81 Mbps upload in Singapore and 724.34 Mbps download. This shows that the server is well-connected globally, albeit with expected variability.

The Yabs performance test gave us deeper insight into the disk’s capabilities with mixed read/write operations. It showed a robust performance, especially with larger block sizes, yielding 727.29 MB/s at 64k and an impressive 679.23 MB/s at the 1m block size. For the Geekbench test, the server scored 940 in single-core and 1580 in multi-core tests, indicating good but not exceptional processing power based on established benchmarks.

UnixBench gave us a glimpse into the CPU’s abilities by simulating different workloads. The server scored 2360.0 when two CPUs ran parallel, highlighting a strong multitasking capability. Combined with previous results, this suggests a reliable performance for typical server tasks, though heavy computational workloads may require beefier specs.

In conclusion, Virtono’s Tokyo-based VPS offers solid performance across the board, with particularly good read/write capabilities and network connectivity, especially within Asian regions. While the processing power may not top the charts, it remains a competent choice for many applications and should effectively serve most typical hosting needs. Users requiring intensive CPU performance may need to weigh other options, but this VPS is a worthy contender for balanced workloads.
