UpCloud Poland Warsaw General Purpose Cloud Server Test and Review

We’re checking out the Warsaw-based general-purpose cloud server from UpCloud in Poland. These powerful servers run on a 32-core AMD EPYC 7542 processor. The setup includes a dual-core CPU, 4GB of memory, 80GB of solid-state storage, and a super-fast 1 Gbps internet connection. Plus, we get a generous 4TB of data transfer, IPv4 and IPv6 address.

Our team put this server through their paces with a bunch of tests. First, we’ll do some standard benchmarks, including Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and the Unix Benchmark, to see how they handle the basics. We’ll do the Global Node Test to understand how they connect globally and check how quickly they respond to the Global Ping Test.

We’re also testing how these servers access content across different regions with the Media Unlock Test. To assess the internet connection quality, we’ll use the CloudFlare Internet Test, and for website speed, we’ll rely on PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance. Stay tuned for the results.

About UpCloud

UpCloud is a European cloud service provider offering high-performance, resilient cloud servers with no upfront costs or commitments. It provides users with the computing, storage, and networking needed to develop and run applications and workloads in the cloud.

UpCloud’s cloud servers are powered by enterprise-grade CPUs and enhanced by their in-house developed MaxIOPS storage technology. This technology allows UpCloud to offer the fastest cloud servers with a proven track record in the market.

They offer three distinct types of cloud servers: General Purpose, High CPU, and High Memory. Each of these configurations provides top-of-the-line performance with an emphasis on different requirements. This flexibility allows users to choose the type of server that best fits their needs.

One of the key features of UpCloud’s cloud servers is their scalability. Users can get started quickly and easily with the needed resources and then scale up in just a few clicks as their business grows. This eliminates the need to overprovision services, as users can easily change between plans and plan types to scale as required.

UpCloud’s cloud servers are also resilient to faults. They have multiple redundancies that eliminate any single point of failure, with the capacity to mitigate issues following failure or attack with automated restarts to recover with minimal interruption.

UpCloud Poland Warsaw General Purpose Cloud Server Test and Review

UpCloud’s Cloud Admin Hub, often called the control panel, is the central interface for managing your cloud servers. It provides a user-friendly and intuitive way to interact with and manage your resources on UpCloud.

The Cloud Admin Hub allows you to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Creating, configuring, and managing your cloud servers.
  • Monitoring the performance of your servers.
  • Managing your storage and network configurations.
  • Implementing and managing security measures such as firewalls.

One of the key features of the Cloud Admin Hub is its ease of use. Its clean, intuitive interface makes navigating easy for beginners and experienced users. This allows users to focus more on their work and less on managing their cloud infrastructure.

Payments

UpCloud operates on a prepaid system, where users can add balance to their accounts anytime. The services are then deducted from this balance on an hourly basis. The current selection of accepted payment methods includes:

  • Credit cards: Visa and MasterCard.
  • PayPal: PayPal balance, bank account, debit, and credit cards (payment methods accepted by PayPal may vary by region).

There are two methods for adding balance to your UpCloud account:

  1. Automated payment: This is a recurring credit card payment system that schedules payments based on your usage and the limits you have set. This ensures your servers run uninterrupted, providing 100% uptime for your web applications and services.
  2. Manual one-time payment: This allows you to make a one-time payment and add it to your account balance whenever you decide.

Please note that virtual debit cards tend to get rejected by their payment processor, and they cannot support them directly. If you encounter any issues or have any questions about the payment methods, you can contact their support at [email protected].

Conclusion

Starting with the Basic Bench, the Input/Output (I/O) speed averaged 370 MB/s across three runs — that’s in the good range, not too far off from the excellent category. Our server also flexed its muscles in various global locations, managing nearly 1 Gbps upload and download speeds with impressively low latency, especially in European nodes. However, some locations like Singapore and Tokyo fell short due to higher latencies, which is somewhat expected given their distance from Poland.

The Yabs Performance Bench gave us more insight. For disk speeds, we got mixed reads/writes of up to 802 MB/s for the larger block sizes, which is decently fast, aligning with the good category again. Regarding CPU performance, Geekbench 6 scores paint a positive picture: with a single-core score of 1284 and a multi-core score of 2286, the server’s CPU performance is comfortably good, well above the standard threshold.

UnixBench showed that it was phenomenally fast when the server ran single-threaded tasks, particularly in file copying and shell script execution. When it ran parallel operations, the speeds almost doubled, hitting high gear, which indicates efficient multi-tasking capabilities.

In conclusion, this server from UpCloud in Warsaw delivers a solid performance across the board. Its I/O speed, while not touching the excellent mark, is still firmly in the good zone. The server has strong CPU capabilities and handles international data transfers well, barring typical latency issues for farther regions. It seems a reliable choice for general-purpose cloud hosting, especially if your audience is in Europe.
