Gullo’s Hosting Finland OpenVZ Virtualization NAT IPv4 VPS Test and Review
We recently reviewed the budget-friendly VPS from Gullo’s Hosting in Finland. This VPS uses a shared version of an Intel i7-8700 processor and includes a minimalistic setup: 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a fast 1 Gbps internet connection, 500 MB of bandwidth, and 20 usable ports plus one for SSH access.
To evaluate its performance, we ran several simple tests. We checked how fast and capable the VPS is with standard benchmarks, measured its network speed and reliability across various locations, and tested its ping times to check for delays. We also checked if the VPS could access content from different regions and assessed its connection quality through CloudFlare.

NAT VPS is a unique offering that allows users to host their websites and applications on a shared IPv4 network, with each user having access to a specific number of ports.

For users who want to host a website but do not have a dedicated IPv4 address, Gullo’s Hosting recommends using Cloudflare’s free IPv6 to IPv4 proxy service. This service works on a reverse proxy, where the public sees a Cloudflare IP for your site while it proxies your actual IP to load it.
However, there are some limitations to the NAT VPS service. For instance, with private addresses, rDNS records cannot be set for IPv4; only in some cases will this be possible for IPv6. Email services may not be a reliable option; in some locations, email may be blocked completely to avoid abuse. Additionally, installing software that requires specific ports to run may not be viable over IPv4.

Conclusion
In our Basic Bench test, which looked at input/output (I/O) performance and internet speed, the VPS showed consistent I/O speeds of around 634 MB/s. Internet speeds were impressive at most test locations, peaking at 914.71 Mbps upload and 877.11 Mbps download in Amsterdam, although the Singapore test showed dramatically lower speeds at 74.66 Mbps upload. Latency was generally low but varied depending on the distance from the test server, with the lowest being 24.18 ms via Speedtest.net and the highest reaching 351.91 ms in Singapore.
The VPS was put through further stress tests with mixed read/write tasks, where it maintained a balanced performance, delivering over 100 MB/s for smaller block sizes and well over 400 MB/s for larger ones. However, we faced a snag during the Geekbench test, which couldn’t run due to insufficient memory, suggesting a need for more than 512 MB of RAM or an adjustment in the choice of benchmarking tools for low-memory environments.
With the UnixBench tool, we assessed the CPU’s capabilities. The VPS showed it could handle various computing tasks adequately, from mathematical operations to system calls. The final Index Score came to 515.3, indicating the VPS is more than capable for a range of basic tasks but may not suit more extensive, memory-intensive operations.
In summary, Gullo’s Hosting’s Finland VPS is a solid choice for those requiring a cost-effective solution for lightweight applications. It delivers reliable and fast performance for basic tasks and browsing, though it would struggle with anything demanding more memory without some upgrades or optimizations.
