Hetzner Germany Nuremberg Shared and Dedicated vCPU Cloud Server Test and Review
Our server evaluation focused on Hetzner‘s Nuremberg-based cloud offerings, segmentable by AMD, Intel, and Ampere processor type.
This lineup caters to a range of demands with distinct CPU allocation strategies. A Shared vCPU server presents an attractive mix of price and performance for cost-conscious projects where CPU demand ebbs and flows.
However, it’s not built for consistent, high CPU loads. Conversely, Dedicated vCPU servers stand out for mission-critical tasks that gulp down CPU cycles, guaranteeing stable performance and swift response times.
About Hetzner
Hetzner Cloud is a cloud hosting service that offers a range of scalable solutions at competitive prices. It’s a service provided by Hetzner Online GmbH, a German web hosting company known for its high-quality services.
The Hetzner Cloud platform offers a variety of server options to cater to different needs. These include shared vCPU (x86), shared vCPU (Arm64), and dedicated vCPU. Each of these options has its unique features and benefits.
Shared vCPU (x86) servers offer the best price-performance ratio and are suitable for small and medium-traffic websites and applications. These servers can handle varying levels of CPU allocation, making them a flexible choice for many users.
Shared vCPU (Arm64) servers provide an alternative to x86-based cloud servers. They leverage the powerful and sustainable Arm64 architecture, offering excellent performance at a stunning price.
Dedicated vCPU servers are best for business-critical applications and workloads with high CPU and network use. These servers offer low latency and predictable performance, which is ideal for high-traffic websites and applications, gaming servers, machine learning, and big data processing.
Hetzner Cloud servers are virtual machines that run on physical servers in the USA and European data centers. The virtualization technology allows users to adjust the scale of their servers at any time, providing flexibility and scalability.

One of the key advantages of Hetzner Cloud is its flexible billing model. Users only pay for their hours, making it a cost-effective solution for many businesses. No minimum contract period is required, allowing users to use the service as needed without long-term commitments.
Customer Support
Hetzner Cloud’s customer support is designed to be comprehensive and accessible. They offer a variety of channels for customers to reach out for help, including email, telephone, and live chat.
Their support center is available for general inquiries from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 6 pm (CET). Technical support related to dedicated servers is provided 24/7. This round-the-clock support is available in English and German.
Hetzner also provides a wealth of online resources for self-help. Their extensive knowledge base includes guides and documentation on Hetzner Online products. They also maintain a status page where customers can find information on scheduled maintenance work and current fault reports from their data centers.
Conclusion
Performance metrics from YabsBench revealed that the Shared vCPU x86, powered by AMD, delivered impressive read and wrote speeds across various block sizes. For 4k blocks, speeds hit approximately 395 MB/s combined, and for larger 1m blocks, it achieved about 5.55 GB/s total. These results indicate robust handling of mixed read/write operations, a critical aspect for dynamic web applications. Benchmarking further underscored single and multicore potency, scoring 1370 and 10136, respectively, confirming its adeptness at handling a slew of tasks contemporaneously.
We also examined a Shared vCPU Arm64 server utilizing an Ampere processor, and it expressed slightly more modest disk throughputs than its AMD counterpart, especially in the smaller block sizes, which peaked at around 343 MB/s for 4k blocks. However, larger block performance was competitive, nudging over 5 GB/s, and benchmarking painted a picture of respectable performance for both single (1150) and multicore scenarios (9356), perhaps signaling a good fit for businesses with varied, but not extreme, processing demands.
Lastly, our Dedicated vCPU x86 server with an AMD chip truly excelled. It cruised through disk speed trials with considerable read/write performance, showing nearly half a gigabyte per second on smaller 4k blocks and close to 4.8 GB/s on the 1m blocks. The Geekbench 6 results – 1518 (single-core) and 6270 (multi-core) – might seem moderate when viewed in isolation but represent reliable and consistent performance essential for CPU-intensive tasks.
In conclusion, Hetzner’s cloud servers offer scalability and efficiency, with the Shared vCPU options adeptly balancing cost and capability. For sustained, high-performance needs, the Dedicated vCPU tier provides the dependability and endurance demanded by rigorous applications. The results affirm a tailored approach to server selection can effectively match various workload requirements, with the appropriate tuning of resources to task complexity and operational prioritization.
