ShiftHosting United States Chicago Intel Xeon Gold 6258R Budget Cloud Server Test and Review
We recently reviewed the Chicago Budget Virtual Server from Shift Hosting. It’s equipped with an Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6258R CPU at 2.70GHz, supported by 16 CPU cores, 32 GB of RAM, 320 GB of SSD storage, a 1 Gbps internet connection, 16 TB of data transfer, one IPv4 and one IPv6 address.
Our review included several key tests: the Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark to gauge performance, the Global Node Test to check network reach; and the Global Ping Test to measure how quickly the server responds.
Also, we checked if it can access media content from different regions using the Media Unlock Test and tested the connection quality with the CloudFlare Internet Test. Finally, we used tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix Performance to assess how well websites would run.

Conclusion
The initial tests, focusing on Input/Output (I/O) speed, showcased impressive results with an average of around 1.3 GB/s, demonstrating that the server can quickly read and write data. Regarding upload and download speeds across various global locations, the server showed robust performance, especially in North American cities, with speed tests yielding over 9000 Mbps. However, in some Asian cities, the speeds dipped significantly, indicating the server’s variable performance based on geographic location.
For more detailed performance analysis, the Yabs Performance Bench indicated strong mixed read and write operations, with outputs ranging from 766.92 MB/s on smaller files to 3.90 GB/s on larger ones. The server showed a strong single-core score of 1239 and an even stronger multi-core score of 9832 on Geekbench, reflecting its ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Delving further into CPU performance with UnixBench, the single CPU run achieved a score of 1874.9, while utilizing all 16 CPUs, the server ramped up its capabilities, achieving a score of 7421.4. This indicates the server’s substantial ability to handle parallel processing.
