DEAC Latvia Riga Regular Performance Cloud Virtual Machine Test and Review

We recently tested the DEAC Latvia Regular Performance Cloud Virtual Machine. This server uses a widely common KVM processor setup, specs including a dual-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, 80GB of SSD storage, a 1Gbps network connection, and unlimited data transfer. It also comes with one IPv4 address.

For our review, we ran many tests: We started with some basic ones like Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark to get a feel for the key performance numbers. To check out the network’s reach and speed, we did the Global Node Test and measured how long it takes data to travel with the Global Ping Test.

We checked if the machine can access content from different areas with the Media Unlock Test. To judge the quality of its connection, we put it through the CloudFlare Internet Test. Lastly, we used tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix to see how they perform with web tasks.

Conclusion

In the series of tests, the Basic Benchmarks focused on the I/O (Input/Output) operations and overall internet speed, with impressive results showing I/O speeds peaking over 1 GB/s and internet upload and download speeds solid across various global test locations. Especially notable were the speeds from European nodes like Paris and Amsterdam, which far exceeded those from more distant locations such as Mumbai and Singapore—though these were still respectable.

The Yabs Performance Bench scrutinized the disk read and write speeds with different block sizes, and the numbers were robust across the board, highlighting the machine’s swift data handling capabilities. More detailed performance metrics came from the Geekbench and UnixBench tests; these looked at processor and system performance.

The Geekbench 6 scores—single-core at 744 and multi-core at 1324—reflected competent processing power, while the UnixBench showed excellent performance when running multiple tests in parallel, jumping from a score of 973.9 with one test to 1576.5 with two.

Moreover, we assessed the server’s ability to access various media services across different countries. While it had full access to some regional content through platforms like Dazn, YouTube Premium, and Amazon Prime Video within Latvia, it showed limitations with services like Disney+, HotStar, and region-bound Netflix offers—which only provided access to Netflix Originals.

In conclusion, the DEAC Latvia Cloud VM delivers strong performance for essential server tasks and boasts speedy network connectivity, especially in Europe. However, its capacity to bypass regional restrictions on media content is somewhat limited. This makes it a great choice if your primary concerns are speed and reliability within server operations and less if your aim is wide access to various international content platforms.
