RackNerd United States New York Ryzen 7950X VPS (Black Friday 2023) Hosting Test and Review
We tried out RackNerd‘s New York VPS for this review, which stands out because it’s part of their special Black Friday 2023 deals. It’s a powerhouse with one of the latest chips, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, with 16 cores, though this plan gives you 2 of those cores to work with. You get 3 GB of RAM, 55 GB of fast NVMe storage, a 1 Gbps net connection, a generous 6 TB data transfer, and an IPv4 Address.
We ran it through a series of tests. First, we looked at the basics—how powerful and efficient is this server? Then, we tested its internet speed from different global locations and response time, which is a fancy way of saying how long it takes to react to a request.
Next, we checked if it can stream local content — can you watch shows and videos usually locked to the region? We also measured how well it connects to CloudFlare, a service that protects and accelerates websites. Lastly, we evaluated how fast web pages load, using popular tools called PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.
About RackNerd
RackNerd is a renowned Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution provider, offering diverse services to meet various computing needs. One of their standout offerings is the Virtual Private Server (VPS) service, designed with stability and performance in mind.
The VPS service from RackNerd provides dedicated resources to each user. This means the resources you pay for are reserved exclusively for your use, ensuring consistent performance and avoiding the “noisy neighbor” problem often associated with shared hosting environments.

Whether you want to install specific software, tweak system settings, or manage security protocols, having root access gives you the freedom to do so.
RackNerd’s VPS service also offers a choice of operating systems. This flexibility allows you to choose an environment that you’re comfortable with and that best suits the needs of your applications. Whether you prefer a Windows or Linux-based system, RackNerd has you covered.
Scalability is another important aspect of RackNerd’s VPS service. As your needs grow, you can seamlessly upgrade your server resources to match. This ensures that your server can keep up with the demands of your applications and traffic, providing a smooth experience for your users.
In terms of security, RackNerd’s VPS service includes DDoS protection. This helps safeguard your server from malicious attacks that could disrupt your service and potentially cause data loss. With RackNerd, you can have peace of mind knowing that your server is protected.

Conclusion
Our first round of tests looked at basic I/O speed, with the server showing strong performance across three runs, averaging 1467.7 MB/s—an indicator of the server’s quick data handling capacity. Network speed tests demonstrated solid upload and download speeds across various global locations, though some areas, like Chongqing, showed significantly lower speeds. The average latency was acceptable, with some variation across different cities reflecting the geographic distance from the server.
We deployed Yabs Performance Bench for comprehensive performance analysis, revealing stellar read/write capabilities under various block sizes. Geekbench scores reflected solid single and multi-core performance, indicative of responsive processing power. UnixBench scores, which test a range of tasks, including computational operations and file copying, provided substantial index scores suggesting that the server is well-suited for diverse workloads.
In real-world applicability, the server performed variably in our media accessibility tests. It succeeded in unblocking Dazn (US region), Amazon Prime Video (US region), and TVBAnywhere+, while it didn’t support platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Hotstar, limiting some streaming options.
To summarize, RackNerd’s New York VPS offered in the Black Friday 2023 sale is a robust and reliable choice for various online endeavors, from hosting websites to handling intensive workloads. Its hardware proved capable in speed and task-processing tests. Although it has excellent local content accessibility and network performance, certain media services remain inaccessible, suggesting a possible focus for RackNerd to enhance its VPS offerings.
