Gcore France Paris Standard vCPU Unlimited Traffic VPS Hosting Test and Review
This time, we’re reviewing the Gcore France Paris Standard VPS, which offers unlimited bandwidth. This virtual server runs on an Intel Xeon Processor (Icelake) and comes with these specs: 2 CPU cores, 4 GB of memory, 50 GB SSD storage, and a 1 Gbps net connection. Plus, you get unlimited data transfer and a single IPv4 address.
We’ve put this server through a series of tests. These include basic performance checks, speed tests using Yabs and Unix Benchmark, network reach via the Global Node Test, and ping tests for checking how fast it communicates with other sites.
We’ve also checked whether different media services are accessible with the Media Unlock Test, looked at connection quality through the CloudFlare Internet Test, and measured web performance using tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix.
About Gcore
Gcore Cloud Virtual Instances are a part of the comprehensive suite of cloud services Gcore offers. They provide ready-made virtual instances that can be deployed rapidly, sometimes in as little as 10 minutes. This makes them an excellent choice for businesses and individuals who need to scale up their computing resources quickly.
The virtual instances come in two types: Core and Edge. Core instances are designed for high scalability and come equipped with the latest generation of equipment. They offer up to 1000 cores and 30 TB of RAM. On the other hand, Edge instances are designed to focus on cost-effectiveness. They offer up to 300 cores and 1 TB of RAM. The choice between Core and Edge would depend on the specific needs and budget of the user.
One of the standout features of Gcore’s virtual instances is the flexibility in choosing the hardware architecture. Users can choose between x86-64 and ARM architectures. The x86-64 architecture is known for its compatibility with Linux operating systems and Windows distributions, making it a popular choice for general-purpose computing applications. The ARM architecture, on the other hand, is designed for energy efficiency and low power consumption, making it ideal for high-performance computing tasks.
In terms of software, Gcore offers a wide range of options. Users can choose an OS distribution, a volume, a snapshot, a custom image, or a template from the marketplace. This allows users to tailor their virtual instances to their specific needs.
Gcore also provides a variety of instance types. Users can select the appropriate CPU generation: Intel® Xeon® Scalable, 3rd Gen, or 2nd Gen if they’ve selected x-86-64 architecture, or ARM Ampere® Altra® Max Family if they’ve selected ARM architecture. This allows users to choose the instance type that best suits their workload.

Admin Control Panel
Gcore’s Cloud Admin Control Panel is a powerful tool that provides users with a comprehensive interface to manage their cloud resources. It’s designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy for beginners and experienced users to navigate.
One of the key features of the Control Panel is its ability to connect to a Virtual Machine (VM). Users can easily connect to an instance via the Console in the Control Panel. After clicking on the desired instance, the system will prompt the user to enter their username and password. The login details depend on the instance’s operating system.
For Linux instances, the login is usually the name of the OS, and the password is entered during the creation of the instance. For Windows instances, the login for all instances is “Admin,” and the password is entered in the “Access” field when creating the instance.
The Control Panel integrates with other Gcore products, such as CDN, Streaming, Storage, DDoS Protection, and DNS Hosting. Users can set up, manage, and get support for their entire Gcore experience in one place.
In addition to these features, the Control Panel has been designed with a focus on customization. Users can tailor their experience to their needs, making it a versatile tool for managing cloud resources.

Conclusion
During the Basic Benchmark, the server showed consistent I/O performance with an average speed of 369.7 MB/s. Network capabilities were impressive, especially within Paris, where it reached download speeds nearing 6600 Mbps and maintained an exceptionally low latency under 1 ms. International connections varied, with some locations like Tokyo experiencing higher latencies, which is typical due to geographic distance.
The Yabs Performance Bench highlighted a balanced read and write capability, particularly with larger block sizes where the server touched disk speeds over 500 MB/s. Similarly, the Geekbench 6 test reflected solid performance with single and multi-core scores of 1314 and 2366, respectively, indicating good processing power for various tasks.
UnixBench scores revealed robust processing capacity, especially when running parallel copies of tests. The server could manage tasks efficiently, from computation (over 77 million lps on Dhrystone) to high file copy speeds (exceeding 2.6 GB/s with large buffers). This shows that the server could be a strong contender for CPU-intensive and disk I/O-bound applications.
Regarding global content accessibility, the Media Unlock Test indicated mixed results. While the server can access local French content like Dazn, YouTube Premium, and Amazon Prime Video, it is limited to Netflix Originals. It did not provide access to platforms like Disney+ and HotStar. Also, the server was optimized for regional services, with the preferred Netflix and YouTube CDNs being in Paris and Frankfurt, respectively.
The Gcore France Paris Standard VPS exhibits strong performance across various benchmarks, making it suitable for demanding tasks and high-speed networking needs, particularly in Europe. It also caters well to local content access, though global media availability is more restricted.
