UpCloud Netherlands Amsterdam AMD EPYC 7542 General Purpose Cloud Servers Test and Review
Our review of the UpCloud Cloud Server in Amsterdam, with its strong hardware foundations, a 32-core AMD EPYC 7542 processor, 2 CPU cores, 4GB of RAM, 80GB SSD, and a high-speed 1Gbps internet port. The server’s ability to handle data transfer—up to 4TB a month—and its inclusion of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses make it a versatile choice for various workloads.
We’ll cover several tests to see how the server performs:
1. Basic Benchmarks: We’ll use tools like Yabs and Unix Benchmark to check essential performance measures like speed and processing ability.
2. Network Tests: We’ll comprehensively test the server’s internet speed and connectivity to different locations worldwide.
3. Latency Tests: We’ll measure how long data travels from the server to other points on the internet to gauge its response time.
4. Regional Access Tests: We’ll check if the server can access media from various locations, which is crucial for websites that serve global audiences.
5. Connection Quality Tests: Using Cloudflare, we’ll assess the server’s internet connection quality.
6. Web Performance Tests: Finally, we’ll use tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix to see how fast websites hosted on this server can load for users.

Admin Control Panel
The UpCloud admin dashboard is a user-friendly interface that allows users to manage their cloud infrastructure. It provides a comprehensive overview of the user’s resources, including servers, storage, and networking.
Users can log in to their workspaces through the dashboard. Once logged in, they can access a range of features and tools. For instance, users can add CPUs or storage devices instantly with just a click. This scalability feature allows businesses to adjust their resources based on their needs.
The dashboard also provides a detailed view of the costs associated with the services. UpCloud bills its services by the usage hour up to a monthly total, ensuring predictable costs for every billing cycle.
In terms of security, the dashboard allows users to manage their data security and ensure GDPR compliance. This is particularly important for businesses that operate in multiple geographical locations.
Moreover, the dashboard includes an in-depth control panel and a versatile API for full control and easy automation. This feature benefits businesses that want to automate their processes and improve efficiency.
Server Pricing
UpCloud offers a variety of server plans to cater to different needs and budgets. The pricing is transparent and based on the resources you choose.
The General Purpose plans have a balanced and cost-efficient set of resources suitable for most use cases. These plans range from €7/month for 1GB memory, 1 CPU core, 25GB MaxIOPS storage, and 1TB transfer, up to €1992/month for 384GB memory, 64 CPU cores, 2048GB MaxIOPS storage, and 24TB transfer.
In addition to the server plan price, there are additional backup costs. The additional storage cost for the weekly plan is €0.05/mo per GB; for the monthly plan, it’s €0.10/mo per GB.
Starting January 1st, 2023, UpCloud changed its pricing currency from US Dollars (USD) to Euros (EUR) to bring more benefits and reduce customer uncertainty. They continue to accept payments in EUR, USD, SGD, and GBP.

Conclusion
Performance tests like the Basic Benchmark revealed consistent I/O speeds averaging 379.3 MB/s. Network performance was impressive, with the speed tests demonstrating near-max connection speeds in most locations, with particularly low latency within Europe, specifically a 6.76 ms ping in Amsterdam. The Global Node Test was conclusive in showcasing high upload and download speeds across multiple continents, signifying the server’s proficiency in handling international traffic.
Using Yabs, disk performance under mixed read/write conditions was robust, with speeds hovering around 771 MB/s for larger blocks. The UNIXBench scores, particularly for the Dhrystone and Whetstone tests, further confirmed the server’s computational horsepower. When CPU tests were run in parallel, the server exhibited more than double the performance, illustrating solid scalability under load.
Conclusively, the UpCloud server in Amsterdam stands out for its exceptional central and northern European connectivity and notable server response times, making it a reliable infrastructure piece for businesses targeting those regions. While it may show some content accessibility limitations, its core hosting capabilities, particularly for handling heavy workloads and high-speed data transfers, are impressive and can serve as a solid foundation for various online services.
