Infomaniak Switzerland Geneva AMD EPYC-Rome Public Cloud On-Demand Server Test and Review
Let’s dive into the Infomaniak Public Cloud server today. Imagine a super-powerful computer in Geneva, Switzerland, that you can use from anywhere. This server boasts a top-notch AMD processor, ample memory and storage for your data, and a lightning-fast internet connection.
Here’s our test lineup:
We’ll start with basic speed tests (Basic Benchmark, Yabs, and Unix Benchmark) to see how fast the server performs everyday tasks. Then, we’ll move on to network tests (like the Global Node Test) to evaluate its data-sending and receiving capabilities worldwide.
A ping test (Global Ping Test) will measure the time a signal travels from the server to another computer and back. This is crucial for time-sensitive activities, such as online gaming, where milliseconds make a difference.
We’ll also check if this server can stream media content from Switzerland using the Media Unlock Test. With the CloudFlare test, we’ll assess the server’s internet connection quality. Finally, we’ll use tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix to test how fast websites on this server load for visitors.
About Infomaniak
Infomaniak is a Swiss company that offers a wide range of web infrastructure solutions, including the Public Cloud. The Public Cloud is a high-performance cloud infrastructure that is competitively priced, powerful, and secure. It is designed to be ultra-competitive, providing a robust solution for businesses of all sizes.
One of the key features of Infomaniak’s Public Cloud is its commitment to data sovereignty and privacy. There is no vendor lock-in, meaning you have full control over where your data is managed. The support team is easily accessible via email, telephone, or chat, ensuring you have the help you need when you need it.
Infomaniak’s Public Cloud was initially reserved for large companies and their services in 2012. However, it is now accessible to everyone. This is the same infrastructure that powers kDrive, Swiss Backup, and Webmail – services used by more than a million users.
The Public Cloud is based on OpenStack, a globally recognized technology used by organizations such as NASA, CERN, Tencent, Nike, AT&T, and VW. This ensures that you won’t be locked into proprietary technologies and can assure your users that their data is processed in Switzerland, in the heart of Europe.
In addition to the Public Cloud, Infomaniak offers various other services, including web hosting, domain names, email, radio streaming, and more. They also provide a unified solution for managing productivity apps within your company, known as kSuite.

Get Started with Infomaniak’s Public Cloud
To get started with Infomaniak’s Public Cloud, you can follow these steps:
- Create a new project: From your Infomaniak Space, you can order a new Public Cloud.
- Access your projects: From the dashboard of your Public Cloud, you can access all your projects.
- Use additional options: Additional options are accessible from the left sidebar of your project’s dashboard.
You can also find many tutorials, step-by-step guides, tips and tricks, and best practices in the product’s user guide. For example, there is a complete tutorial for deploying WordPress with OpenStack in Infomaniak Public Cloud.
Remember, Infomaniak’s Public Cloud is an IaaS solution based on OpenStack, which provides the resources you need to develop your projects.
Admin Control Panel
Infomaniak’s cloud administration dashboard, also known as the Manager, is a centralized platform that allows you to manage all Infomaniak products in one place. This includes domain names, hosting, and the Public Cloud.
To access the dashboard, you must sign in with your login email address and password. There is an option to stay connected, which you should uncheck if you are connecting from a device that does not belong to you.
The dashboard is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. It provides a comprehensive overview of your products and services, making managing and monitoring your resources easy.

Conclusion
Initially, we ran a series of basic tests to see how quickly it can read and write data (I/O speeds), and it remained consistent at around 187 MB/s. Then, we switched gears to evaluate its connectivity with different global locations.
The results were varied; while local Swiss connections zipped by like a train—averaging upload speeds exceeding 6000 Mbps and low ping times—speeds to places further away like Singapore and Hong Kong took a dip, which is expected due to the greater distance the data has to travel.
Next, we probed its mixed read/write operations using Yabs. Things still looked promising, with speeds topping off at about 400 MB/s when handling larger files. Geekbench gave us a peek at how the server’s single and multiple cores perform under pressure, bringing to light its strong capacity to handle intensive tasks.
Regarding the UnixBench scores, our server showed off its muscles when working singularly and in tandem with all 16 cores firing. Metrics from the UnixBench scores left no doubts about the server’s hefty performance, which significantly surpasses the standard benchmarks.
Lastly, in the Media Unlock Test, the server could access various streaming services within Switzerland. However, some global services were locked out, revealing that they are more local-friendly than a passport to global content.
In conclusion, the Infomaniak Public Cloud server demonstrates its prowess mostly in local connectivity and data processing, with great results in handling tasks that mimic real-world usage. It fits the bill for businesses centered around Swiss audiences or anyone requiring a dependable server with strong multitasking abilities. However, additional considerations for international access and content delivery networks might be necessary for those aiming to reach a far-reaching global audience without limitations.
